Organization: Institute of Finance and Sustainability (IFS) 


Location: Beijing or Hong Kong 


Position Overview: The Capacity-building Alliance of Sustainable Investment (CASI) Secretariat, formed by the Institute of Finance and Sustainability (IFS), is seeking a committed Operations and Communications Manager to bolster its operations. The individual selected for this role will be instrumental in supporting the operations of the CASI Secretariat and external communications.


Key Responsibilities: 

  • Operational Support for CASI Secretariat: Aid in the day-to-day functioning of the CASI Secretariat, ensuring efficient coordination among stakeholders CASI members as well clients such as financial regulators, financial institutions, and sustainable finance service providers in developing countries; 

  • Organize Training Activities:  Work with the CASI team to organize in-person and hybrid training activities in Asia, Africa, Middle East, and Latin America that target developing country audience on sustainable finance related topics. 

  • Module Course Design: Source educational contents from CASI members and partners and assist an expert group to develop educational modules in line with CASI's mission to support sustainable finance in developing countries; 

  • External Communications: Oversee all external communications, including stakeholder management, media outreach, and dissemination of publications, mainly in English. 


Requirements: 

  • Willing to be based in Beijing or Hong Kong, and to travel extensively to developing countries globally. 

  • Minimum 5-7 years of professional work experience, with at least 3 years focused on green/sustainable finance-related areas or broader sustainability issues. 

  • Previous experience of organizing capacity-building programs will be considered a strong advantage. 

  • Masters’ degree in finance, economics, environment or related areas preferred. 

  • Native-level proficiency in English is mandatory, especially for English writings. 

  • Ability to communicate in Chinese (Mandarin and Cantonese) is a plus.

Starting Time: The ideal candidate should be able to commence the role before the end of 2023. 


About CASI: 

The Capacity-building Alliance of Sustainable Investment (CASI), hosted by the Institute of Finance and Sustainability (IFS), aims to deliver high-impact and high-quality sustainable finance capacity-building services to developing countries. It is slated for launch in Q4 of 2023 and is an initiative spearheaded by the Global Green Finance Leadership Program (GFLP). 


About IFS: 

Established by Dr. Ma Jun, the Institute of Finance and Sustainability (IFS) is a Beijing-based non- profit think tank specialized in ESG investment, natural capital, green technology innovation, and low-carbon transitions. Its mission is to advance green finance and sustainable development in China and globally, through high-quality research, capacity building, and advocacy work on green finance policies as well as market and product development. IFS clients include international organizations, domestic and foreign governments, financial institutions, and enterprises. In recent years, the IFS has managed the Green Finance Leadership Program (GFLP), supported several domestic and foreign sustainable standards-setting and international cooperation mechanisms, and provided over 100 advisory services, on topics such as reginal and enterprises’ carbon neutrality roadmaps, taxonomies, green and transition finance products, ESG evaluation systems, green supply chain, sustainability disclosure, environmental and climate risk analysis. 


About GFLP: 

The Global Green Finance Leadership Program (GFLP) provides a platform for knowledge sharing on best practices of, and inspiring innovations for, scaling up green and sustainable finance. Established in May 2018, GFLP is hosted by the IFS. 


Since its establishment in 2018, GFLP has successfully hosted 11 capacity building events, including offline and on-line events in China, Morocco, Mongolia, Kazakhstan and Malaysia, attracting more than 4,500 participants from over 70 jurisdictions, most of which are developing economies. GFLP activities include convening seminars and trainings, field trips, research projects. Moreover, the GFLP supported and participated in more than 20 seminars and capacity building events held by other institutions. GFLP has published 7 research reports and established partnerships with more than 30 institutions. In addition, the GFLP provides newsletters, research reports, and more than 200 video and audio products on its website. 


GFLP aims to effectively strengthen policymakers, financial practitioners and other stakeholders’ capacity to promote sustainability for their operations and businesses. The topics of GFLP events include standard setting and implementation, sustainability disclosure, green financial instruments innovation, sustainable finance incentives, environmental and social risk assessment, stress-testing and scenario analysis, financial support for biodiversity, transition finance, carbon markets, etc. GFLP was invited to present its achievement and experience in sustainable finance capacity building at the G20 SFWG meeting in early 2023.
