Biodiversity loss is intensifying global nature-related risks and increasingly posing material threats to the stability of the financial system, asset valuations, and long-term economic resilience. At the same time, with the continued advancement of international policy and regulatory frameworks—such as the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) and the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD)—financial institutions are facing more stringent external regulatory requirements and higher stakeholder expectations for transparency and accountability. Against this backdrop, actively identifying, assessing, and managing nature-related risks has become a key priority for financial institutions to strengthen risk resilience, compliance capabilities, and sustainable business performance. To support capacity building for biodiversity-related financing in countries and regions along the Belt and Road, and to help financial institutions better identify, manage, and disclose nature-related risks and opportunities, the Working Group One of the Green Investment Principles (GIP) for the Belt and Road will host a seminar titled “Navigating Nature-related Risks Part II” on Monday, July 7, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM in Beijing. Co-chaired by Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) and Swiss Re, with PwC serving as the secretariat, the GIP First Working Group will build on the success of Part I, held in March 2024, to further explore the roles and practical approaches of financial institutions in biodiversity conservation. During the event, the WG1 will officially launch the research report titled “Financial Support for Biodiversity Conservation under the Background of the Belt and Road Initiative”, based on findings from the previous GIP Biodiversity Survey. The report aims to summarize current practices and provide actionable recommendations. A panel discussion will also be held, bringing together expert representatives from various types of financial institutions to share their practical experiences and challenges in nature-related risk management and biodiversity finance. Please refer to the detailed agenda below. If you are interested in attending, please scan the QR code below to register. Further event details will be provided upon successful registration. We look forward to your participation.
